Samsung MIM-E03CN Cascade Control Kit

The Samsung MIM-E03GN is a dedicated control kit for integrating Samsung EHS Mono outdoor units without a built-in circulation pump into a cascade air-to-water heat pump system. It works together with the Samsung MCM-D3E0N central cascade controller and allows each compatible outdoor unit to communicate and operate in coordination within high-output heating, cooling, and domestic hot water installations.

Samsung specifies that one MIM-E03GN must be installed for each compatible outdoor unit that requires a control kit. With this architecture, the cascade system can manage up to 8 EHS Mono heat pumps and achieve a maximum total output of 128 kW, offering a solution especially suited to multi-family residential buildings, large homes, and commercial applications that require greater thermal capacity.

Dedicated kit for Samsung EHS cascade systems

The MIM-E03GN has been developed specifically for Samsung’s new cascade control system. Its function is to serve as the control interface for each compatible EHS Mono outdoor unit that does not have an integrated pump, allowing connection to the main MCM-D3E0N controller.

Samsung expressly states that the MIM-E03GN is the dedicated kit for outdoor units connected to the cascade system and that other control kits must not be used as substitutes within this configuration.

Up to 8 heat pumps and 128 kW of output

When used together with the MCM-D3E0N cascade controller, the system can manage up to 8 Samsung EHS Mono outdoor units. With units of up to 16 kW, the installation can reach a maximum combined capacity of 128 kW.

This modular configuration makes it possible to adapt the available output to the building’s thermal needs. The system can coordinate the operation of the different heat pumps according to demand, avoiding the need for all units to run simultaneously when this is not necessary.

Modular operation and load sharing

Samsung’s cascade solution is designed to modulate total capacity according to the demand for heating, cooling, or domestic hot water. The main controller coordinates the connected outdoor units and distributes the load between them to adapt production to the installation’s needs.

Samsung allows outdoor units of different outputs to be combined as long as they belong to the same product type. For example, within an EHS Mono R290 system, different capacities from that same family can be combined.

It is not permitted to mix incompatible product families within the same cascade. Unit selection must be carried out in accordance with Samsung’s combination tables and technical instructions.

Compatible with different EHS Mono ranges

Samsung’s cascade system supports different EHS Mono heat pump families. The MIM-E03GN is used with compatible units that require an individual control kit to connect to the central controller.

• Samsung EHS Mono R32: compatible with the cascade system via MIM-E03GN depending on model.
• Samsung EHS Mono HT Quiet: compatible with the cascade system via MIM-E03GN.
• Samsung EHS Mono R290: compatible via MIM-E03GN in versions without an integrated pump.
• Samsung EHS Mono R290 with integrated pump: does not require MIM-E03GN.

Samsung specifies that R290 Mono units with an integrated pump can be connected to the cascade system without this control kit, as they already include the necessary components.

Required MCM-D3E0N main controller

The MIM-E03GN is not, by itself, the master controller of the installation. Its function is to connect an individual outdoor unit to the cascade system. Overall management of the system is handled by the Samsung MCM-D3E0N, which acts as the central controller.

In installations with several outdoor units without a built-in pump, one MIM-E03GN is used for each heat pump, while a single MCM-D3E0N coordinates the entire system.

Heating, cooling and DHW

Samsung’s EHS Cascade system is designed to manage heating, cooling, and domestic hot water production installations. This makes it possible to use several heat pumps as a single coordinated system and adapt their operation to the building’s thermal demand.

The cascade controller can also manage two independent heating zones and supports integration with other heat sources to configure hybrid systems, provided the project complies with the conditions and hydraulic schematics specified by Samsung.

Greater service continuity

An installation with several heat pumps in cascade offers a modular architecture compared with solutions based on a single high-output machine. Samsung has designed the system so that, in certain fault situations affecting one unit, the controller can isolate it and keep the remaining available units operating.

This strategy helps maintain thermal production capacity while the affected unit is serviced and is especially useful in buildings where heating or DHW production is highly important.

Integration with Modbus and connected systems

The MCM-D3E0N central controller used together with the MIM-E03GN is compatible with Modbus communication to facilitate integration with external building control and management systems.

The cascade platform also offers compatibility with EHS Cloud and SmartThings in the firmware versions specified by Samsung. These functions correspond to the cascade control system and may require an internet connection, a Samsung account, and additional communication components depending on the installed configuration.

Flow sensor included

The MIM-E03GN supply includes a flow sensor with a 1.5 m cable. This component allows control of the water flow associated with the outdoor unit and is part of the necessary components for correctly integrating the heat pump into the cascade hydraulic system.

The necessary pipe connectors for hydraulic integration of the kit are also supplied, as well as fixing elements and seals.

Compatibility within the cascade installation

Samsung states that the maximum number of outdoor units connected to a single MCM-D3E0N controller is eight. The units used must belong to the same product family, although different capacities within that family may be used.

For example, it is possible to combine different compatible EHS Mono R290 outputs within the same installation, but not to freely mix R290, R32, and HT Quiet units within a single cascade.

Samsung EHS Mono R290 units with an integrated circulation pump can work directly with the cascade controller and do not require the MIM-E03GN. By contrast, compatible units without an integrated pump use this kit as the individual interface with the system.

Solution for high-output air-to-water heat pump installations

The Samsung MIM-E03GN makes it possible to turn several compatible EHS Mono heat pumps into a coordinated modular installation managed by the MCM-D3E0N controller. This architecture allows up to 128 kW with eight units, progressively adapting output to demand and providing greater flexibility than a solution based on a single high-capacity unit.

Thanks to its features, it is a particularly suitable solution for multi-family buildings, commercial applications, and centralized air-to-water heat pump projects where several Samsung EHS Mono heat pumps need to be combined.

Important: the MIM-E03GN is an individual control kit for the cascade system and does not replace the main MCM-D3E0N controller. The exact compatibility of each outdoor unit must be checked before designing the installation. ClimateHub and Hydro Unit are not compatible with this cascade solution according to Samsung’s current documentation.
